🌳Wiltshire Great Wood to be transformed into nature reserve

Great news! an ancient woodland near Grittenham is being saved and transformed into a nature reserve.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has announced the purchase of the 71 hectare Great Wood, an ancient woodland in North Wiltshire.

The transformation into a nature reserve will prevent the woodland from being sold off to multiple landowners or commercially managed.

Ancient woodlands help to mitigate climate change by storing large amounts of carbon and protect and promote valuable biodiversity. They have a far greater plant biodiversity than recently planted woodlands and support a huge variety of insects, birds and mammals.
